A NOTE FROM JESSEL
It reminds me of my student days in college when we filled the room with easels and painted a model.  I am even thinking down the road we will bring in a model! This is a Canvas Painting Class with Acrylic.

CLASS FEEDBACK: July Acrylic on Canvas Series

A hot hello to all.😵‍💫
I enjoyed meeting you and learning a bit about everyone, both before starting to paint and while having dinner. Everything was yummy and Max is a new friend.😋
Thank you, Jessel for your wisdom and guidance. I am happy you had this dream and that I am a part of you having it come to fruition as evidenced in the pics below. I am learning a lot.🥳
Here are a few things I have reflected on since last night’s class:
• Painting with acrylics is quite different to watercolor painting: way more paint is needed, I am too conservative with the blobs of color I put on my palette
• OMG, I used up my white! This is an important supply so, buy a lot more. There are messy stages to painting and creating in both mediums, trust the process and myself…
• Thinking about my topic and why I chose it keeps my feelings nurtured and drives my inspiration…I’m looking forward to being with my project next week
• There is a sense of joy to each part of the journey: covering the whole canvas at the start gave me a sense of accomplishment; adding the next part, however, was messy and made me uncomfortable, but Jessel assured me it’s fine and it was. She said to start putting in the clouds, adding windows of light in my green swathes and voila, something like a real tree began emerging😄
More to come on this new adventure we are all on together.
Stay cool.🌷

Happy Friday, artist friends!👩‍🎨🎨👨‍🎨
Hopefully you have been finding ways to stay cool these past few days. It was 107 in Antioch, yesterday.😎 Today, it’s not supposed to be as hot, but still in the triple digits.
I am looking forward to getting back to my project as I am sure all of you are, too.  Here are few pics of our last day as a small village of artist learning with real intense focus and concentration. Love it! 🥳
Here are a few of my reflections since last class:
  • My “swoosh” experience was surprisingly, not as scary as I thought. I would never have thought to take a putty knife and load it with the colors like those in my project photo and smear it across my canvas to build a base. I was so surprised at how quickly my canvas went from having a thin, bland base to having a solid colorful base to build from. (I included my before and after pics) Thank you Jessel for sharing this whacko “swoosh” technique and for creating a swoosh rendition of all our projects! I appreciate the time you took to study everyone’s project, rearrange the lighting and the easels to benefit our next class. 🎨  I will be swooshing again, I know🥸
  • As I started painting more of the details in my scene, I learned that I needed to learn more about how to select and use my brushes. I also learned I need to have more practice in color mixing. I can’t remember the colors Jessel said to use to make skin tone…ochre and???
  • I am enjoying seeing how everyone’s project is evolving. It’s amazing how deeply focused we all get into are our projects while being in a group. The energy is rich just like the colors on our palettes.🎨 Fun!!
Meet you at the easel, soon.
