This one-off piece is entirely custom crafted in my shop using the Steinway piano, as the inspiration. It has been mathematically scaled down from measurements taken from a Steinway Model D piano, their largest concert grand piano. It was built to hold what is known as a “Piano of Wine” which consists of 6L, 3L, 1.5L and 750ml. bottles. Extra space to the right of the piano wine allowed for two additional 750 ml bottles and explains the pieces title. There are two removable bottles racks in the cases interior in the event a different bottle orientation or case use is desired. The case is approximately 4’ long X 2’ wide and ~ 3’ high with the lid open.
It is hand-crafted of quality hardwoods using a re-sawn technique which insures stability in various changes in atmospheric humidity. The main body has been coated with over eleven coats of lacquer and then hand rubbed and waxed to a higher caliber than the legendary Steinway finish. The inside is coated with Japan red over which silver leaf has been applied and then chemically processed to achieve a gold patina. The hand-crafted curved lid holder is black walnut inlaid with Paua abalone shell and is tipped with a hand cut/polished piece of travertine stone. The case lid hinges are original brass Steinway hinges.
The piano was a selected art-piece on display in a prominent location during the Artistry in Wood exhibition at the Sonoma Museum 2018-2019.
The purchase price is $ 40,000.00
