After the Fire
Next week will be much more joy filled yet I felt it very important to share emotions and have the students talk about their experience this past few weeks. 

The class did two exercises this week. They started with a pass around piece in which everyone had a few minutes on a piece and then we passed it to the next person and so on for 1 1/2 hours. The results were amazing and reflective of the feelings about the recent Napa Fire. These pass around pieces have no names because it was everyone on each page. 

The second exercise was to paint a landscape and express your emotions about our valley. 

The class that came and filled the room. A little bit of healing for all.

“Saturday in class we painted standing up with hands at the top of our long brushes, intent on painting loose.  Jessel uses words like “whisper” and “suggest” in creating, instead of painting a photo-perfect painting.  She says it’s more painterly to “suggest” a flower, letting the eye of the gazer have some input and interpretation.  That suits me just fine because then there’s more room for blending and merging, my favorite techniques.  And in my life, I seem to be in that stage of “suggesting” rather than the in your face black and white confronting of earlier stages." As the name "flat wash" implies, your aim is to end up with a "flat" or "even" wash of color throughout the entire area that you're painting. All levels welcome - from beginners to expert.  No experience necessary!

$50/class or 4 classes for $160. Gift certificates available.

This is not a continuous class. You can jump in any week and I will surprise you with the subject matter and medium.  You will leave each class with a complete piece.

Class Details

• NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! This is a class for Beginners and Beyond, meaning all levels.
• This is not a continuous class so you can jump in any week and I will surprise you with the subject matter and medium.
• I work in mainly watercolor but I also paint on glass or use acrylic.
• I have some supplies for sale like palettes and paper and I supply the product to first-time students and then give you a list of things to purchase for the class (but I also have supplies if you forget yours!).
• It helps if you RSVP so I save a place for you in class. (the room fits 9 people so I like to know we have enough room).
• We have a 1/2 hour Potluck Lunch each week and whatever you bring is perfect and it always works out.
• Class starts promptly here at the gallery at 10:30am each Saturday morning and goes to about 2pm.
• Class tickets of 4 are $150 or $50 for one class and gifts certificates are available.
• I have only one rule about this class. Leave your judgments at the door and plan to be delighted, excited and surprised by your own creative process.
• You will leave with a completed piece of art each.   ​
